Flats fishing

Flats fishing is done on a specialized skiff designed to be poled across the shallows in search of your prey. These boats are generally between 16' - 18' and are coast guard licensed to carry two anglers plus the guide. Due to the modified "V" hull and shallow draft they can get into very skinny water and are incredibly stealthy. Hull slap and other noises have been seriously limited if not eliminated all together, allowing the angler to sneak into casting range of the fish. Many consider this the most challenging style of saltwater fishing. The casts have to be quick and accurate, sometimes up to 90' and the targets in the keys (bonefish, permit and tarpon) are some of the spookiest fish in the water. Depending on the time of year, other targets around the lower keys include sharks, barracuda, jacks, cobia as well as redfish, snook, and speckled trout. This is an ideal trip for the fly or spin fisherman.
